Here's to a colorful 2022

Hi All,

It’s 2022! Hope all have had a happy, healthy start to your new year.

I had a busy, successful holiday event season and now I am dedicating my studio time to producing new works that have been on my wish list to do. New mixed media paintings so far include a raven, camellia, bee balm, and a turtle. Oh my.

I think chickens may be next…but the subject matter is not very good at posing for a picture.

I have been keeping to an “art a day” routine as my new years’ resolution. My dear friend Rose and I are keeping each other honest and motivated to make creative marks each day. This has been wonderful for allowing myself the permission to give art priority in my day… if only its for a few minutes. Creating art daily really frees the mind of critical thinking. No pressure! Just fun! If I goof, there is no obsessive re-working… I just move on to the next day.

Here is a sampling of some art a day 20min doodles. I am trying to focus on my efficiency of my brush strokes.

It is the start of a new year, so the hot question is “what is the color of the year?” Usually announced in the latter part of the previous year, these color predictions from the design industry are predictions based on analysis of trends in pop culture, politics, technology, social issues and more.

Here are a few of the notable picks for 2022. Interestingly, even though there is some variety in the colors (big lean to soft greens)…almost all of the colors express an openness to change. You will find a lot of the vocabulary speaks to “motivation, creativity, relaxation, positivity” etc. This is well timed consideration as we continue to deal with the pandemic.

It is a new year, a fresh start … and maybe a time to surround yourself in a new color.

Love them or hate’em… here are a few picks for 2022.

What is your favorite?

Pantone – 2022 color of the year: Very Peri

“A new pantone color whose courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity”

Benjamin Moore Paints – 2022 color of the year: October Mist 1495

“a gently shaded sage that quietly anchors while encouraging creative expression through color.”

Behr Paints – 2022 color of the year: Breezeway “A relaxed and uplifting sea glass green expressing peace and tranquility for forward movement.”
