Summer is almost over?!?!!!!

Updated: Sep 19, 2022

Whew! It's hot out! Wishing everyone a shady tree and an ocean breeze!

I don’t have much in the way of deep meaningful art thoughts this time around. Just a few thank y’alls, some news, and an upcoming event schedule.

Thank you to all those who continue to support local arts even through scary economic times. You are appreciated!

Thank you to Voyage Raleigh for sharing my story! They have great articles on local creatives and entrepreneurs!

Read a little about my art journey here:

Since I last wrote I have been welcomed to the Art at 123 Gallery in Wilson, NC. The owner Andrea Horton Morton is a wonderful artist in her own right. The space is full of color and joy and reflects Andrea’s passion for art. In addition to my mixed media paintings, I am creating 3d mini paintings of the Whirligig Park exclusive for Art at 123. So far, I have sold out of the whirligig minis but I hope to have a nice selection ready for the shopping season.

I was able to spend a good amount of time away U.P. Michigan this summer. My grandfather was a Finnish immigrant copper miner and we have been working on this late 1800’s mill home for over 10 years now. Our vacations are split between being part tourist and part DIY project contractor. The Keweenaw Peninsula has endless natural beauty, all surrounded by Lake Superior. I always come back with wonderful imaged captured in my head and camera that I am eager to paint.

This summer was also special on a personal level because my babies

are no longer babies!!!! With their recent birthdays, my daughter turned 21 and my son 18. A new chapter is upon me. Of course! they think it’s no big deal… but I feel different. I promise to look to the future with positivity. I am going to do my best to enjoy their adventures and not worry too much. I want to celebrate their accomplishments from afar without being sad they are not home. My goal is to reflect this attitude in my paintings with more light and painterly happiness.
